The Role
Medianet Insights is looking for an engaged and critical thinking individual to join our growing and vibrant team as a media analyst working on a variety of client projects. The job involves evaluating media coverage and writing reports illustrating how our clients are being portrayed in the media.
Medianet Insights has a history of promoting entry-level roles into account and project management positions, and the right candidate will have multiple opportunities to explore and develop skills beyond the responsibilities detailed below.
This role is a full-time position and is perfect for someone looking for experience and exposure to the media and communications industry.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for the following tasks, with full training provided:
Analysing media coverage against both qualitative and quantitative criteria, including key themes, sentiment and proactive engagement
Using nuanced guidelines to discern relevant and irrelevant coverage for clients with large media profiles, to ensure insights delivered to clients are targeted
Ensuring the analysis databases are accurate and consistent
Generating client reports including data visualisations and statistics
Writing insightful, relevant commentary about key media issues
Writing and presenting key learnings and evidence-based recommendations for clients
Updating and managing online platforms for client projects
Staying across broader developments and issues within client’s own organisations, in the media and across their industry in general
Skills - Required
Analytical mindset – Ability to think critically, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions from data.
Excellent writing skills for a range of audiences, including the ability to synthesise complex information into digestible and accessible language
Strong attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work
Good Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, with a willingness to learn new technologies as needed
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Well-organised with strong time management capabilities and ability to meet deadlines
Skills - Desired
Bachelor’s degree in Media, Communications, Journalism, Publishing, or a related field.
Experience with qualitative or quantitative research.
Understanding of statistical concepts and methods for measuring accuracy and relevancy of large datasets.
Experience in a professional work environment.
Good understanding of corporate affairs, media relations and issues management practices
Experience with data analysis tools and platforms.
Well-read and up-to-date on national and world affairs.
Any experience giving oral presentations to clients or stakeholders will be well-regarded.
Please note that this is a role ideal for someone with 1-2 years experience in their career in media/communications. Experience in education settings, as well as customer-service or unpaid internship roles may be relevant to meet the required or desired key selection criteria.
